The treat I never had to apologise for
I’ve watched too many friends order a “gluten-free option” and quietly resign themselves to disappointment. Dry, crumbly, clearly missing something. So one of my favourite things about mochi donuts is that I never have to apologise for them. They were never trying to imitate wheat in the first place.
That changes everything about how they taste.
Naturally gluten-free, not gluten-free-as-a-penalty
Our mochi donuts are made from rice flour. Quick myth-bust while we’re here: the “glutinous” in glutinous rice just describes the sticky texture — there’s no actual gluten in it. So these are naturally gluten-free, not a sad substitute version cooked up to tick a box.
You’re not getting the lesser donut. Plenty of people who can eat anything they like still reach past the wheat ones for these.
A standard donut is mostly air. Gone before you’ve registered it.
A mochi donut makes you work for it in the best way — that bouncy, stretchy chew that keeps you present for the whole thing.
It’s the difference between a snack and a small event. And it’s a texture wheat flour simply can’t pull off, gluten or no gluten.
Honestly? They’re just delicious
I’m not going to wrap this in fancy words. They’re yummy. They’re chewy. You eat one and immediately get why people buy a box “for the family” and then quietly demolish most of it on the drive home.
We rotate the flavours so there’s always something new, and because we make them fresh in small batches, the chew stays consistent batch to batch.
A real note for my coeliac friends
I want to be straight with you here, because it matters. Our mochi donuts are made with naturally gluten-free ingredients, but a busy kitchen is a busy kitchen. If you’re coeliac or have a serious intolerance, please have a chat with us in person so we can talk you through exactly how we handle things. I’d rather have that conversation than make a promise I can’t stand behind.
Try the one gluten-free treat people fight over
If you’ve written off gluten-free dessert, give these a proper run. Grab a box of Chewberry gluten-free mochi donuts in Adelaide or the Barossa — I think they’ll change your mind, and quietly become your default order.
